When it comes to protecting your motorcycle, understanding the differences between frame sliders and crash bars is important. Both serve to minimize damage during falls, but they do so in distinct ways.
Our crash pads are made of durable plastic and are mounted directly to the motorcycle's frame. They are less obtrusive, maintaining the bike's aesthetic. Their primary function is to prevent the bike's body and engine from contacting the ground during a tip-over and to help the bike slide in a lowside, reducing the chance of the bike cartwheeling, causing catastrophic damage.
Crash Bars are constructed from metal tubing and they provide more comprehensive protection by enveloping entire parts of the motorcycle's engine and bodywork. They can distribute impact forces over a larger area and to more points of connection with the frame. This can be beneficial in more serious crashes. Additionally, crash bars can offer some protection to the rider's legs. However, they add weight and can affect the bike's appearance. Crash bars might also reduce the lean angle in cases like a boxer engine.
All of our slider crash pads—for your frame or axles—are made of extremely robust polyamide material. They have both high-impact damping and sliding properties. In the event of a crash, they absorb the energy of the initial hit and prevent it from being transmitted directly to the motorcycle. This can prevent damage to the motorcycle and save time and money for expensive repairs to components like the engine.
